At least three people were killed and nine injured in Wednesday morning’s shooting on a Utrecht tram, the city’s mayor said on Twitter. Three of those are seriously injured, mayor Jan van Zaanen said in a short statement. ‘Our thoughts are with the victims families and the witnesses of the attack, he said. ‘We cannot exclude, in fact we are assuming, that there was a terrorist motive,’ he said. One shooter has been named but ‘we cannot exclude there being others,’ he said. People in Utrecht are being advised to stay indoors pending further information. A new update will be given around 4pm. The man was named as 37-year-old Gökmen Tanis, born in Turkey. He is being sought in connection with the incident on the 24 Oktoberplein near the city’s main train station at around 10.45am on Monday. Police have told the public not to approach the suspect directly, but to call the investigation hotline on 0800 6070.
