So many of us dream of it as a child, but only a few have reached the most noble goal one could ever achieve. To win gold once is mind blowing; to win gold twice is exceptional.

Phelps is the most decorated Olympian of all time. With returning in five Olympics and coming out on top each and every time, most would believe he was living a dream; but someone else’s dream was at times, Michael’s nightmare.

The grass isn’t always greener on the other side. Everyone has demons they have to battle including Phelps. He has had his fair share of battles and struggles, but what makes him a true hero more than any of his gold medals, is how he found himself and conquered his evil.

We learn in life that there is no such thing as perfection. Although situations and other’s may seem to have it all, it is important to remember secrets and pain can be masked in the most beautiful ways. It was a close call for Phelps; he hit rock bottom with no faith left to get back up like many greats before him, but there was one difference. Phelps looked to those who loved him and fought his way back to the pool and to happiness. Many would not have won that battle, but the heart of an Olympian can overcome all.
